NJSBA 2024 Mid-Year Meeting
8:30am – 9:45am

Robert B. Hille, a partner in the firm’s Healthcare and Litigation Departments, will be a panelist for the presentation “AI, Ethics, Legal Malpractice – How to Avoid the Malevolent Consequences of the Witches Brew” at the New Jersey State Bar Association’s 2024 Mid-Year Meeting at The Shelbourne in Dublin, Ireland. The program is scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 8:30am – 9:45am in Salon 1.

What is artificial intelligence? What is generative AI? How is machine learning different from artificial intelligence? They are all areas of ethical concern. The use of artificial intelligence in the legal profession raises several ethical considerations for lawyers. While AI can provide valuable support to legal practitioners, it is essential for lawyers to remain mindful of their professional obligations and ethical duties. Some of the key ethical considerations include: confidentiality, competence and diligence, supervision, communication, avoiding the unauthorized practice of law, billing, bias and fairness, and responsibility and accountability.

Mr. Hille is a past President of the NJSBA. He focuses his practice in litigation, with a particular emphasis on trial advocacy. His areas of concentration include insurance, healthcare law, professional liability and ethics, and white-collar criminal matters, including those related to professional ethics. Mr. Hille has extensive trial expertise that encompasses insurance defense and coverage cases, healthcare disputes, professional liability defense, fraud and abuse, and regulatory issues. He is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney.
