Jack Fersko, Chair of the firm’s Cannabis Industry Practice Group, will be on the faculty for the live webcast “Counseling Cannabis: Legal Essentials and Opportunities” on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 12:00pm – 1:30pm. The presentation will be hosted by American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education (ALI-CLE).
The cannabis industry is a multi-billion-dollar industry despite an enduring federal prohibition on marijuana. As of February 2024, 24 states and the District of Columbia have legalized cannabis for recreational use, and another 14 states allow medicinal use.
This growth has brought about increased demand from businesses for cannabis licensing within legalized jurisdictions and a growing need by the industry for legal counsel in such areas as licensing, corporate formation, tax planning, banking, real estate, creditor’s rights, and more.
This all-new program will address the knowledge and skills necessary to counsel businesses and property owners in this heavily regulated space. The program will update attendees on critical legal and regulatory issues to be considered as the faculty addresses the following issues and more:
- Legal overview
- Professional responsibility concerns
- Banking and tax issues
- Licensing issues
- Business and financing considerations
- Real estate considerations
- Evolving considerations and hot topics including deregulation efforts, SAFE banking, and more
Mr. Fersko’s practice reflects his extensive experience as a commercial real estate and general business lawyer. He advises clients on the business impacts of New Jersey’s medical and personal-use cannabis industry. As Co-Chair of the firm’s Real Estate Department, his legal services emphasize industrial and commercial real estate activities, with a particular focus on industrial leasing, project financing, sustainable development and alternative energy initiatives, urban redevelopment, and the impact of environmental laws on commercial real estate transactions, including the acquisition and redevelopment of environmentally contaminated sites.
