Eric H. Melzer, a member of the Sports Lawyers Association, will be a panelist at that group’s upcoming event, “Representing the Athlete Beyond the Playing Contract.” The program will focus on areas of legal advice, beyond the basic nuts & bolts, which lawyers may need to incorporate into their representation of athletes. Topics will include the set-up and operation of charitable foundations, avoiding and dealing with disciplinary proceedings, and the use of social media within a legal compliance framework.  The seminar will be held on July 13, 2015 from 6:00pm – 8:00 pm at the offices of Loeb & Loeb LLP in New York City.

Mr. Melzer concentrates his practice in corporate and business law. He focuses on representing business owners and individuals in business and finance transactions, intellectual property matters, and franchise law. He represents numerous clients in the sports and entertainment industries, including athletes, performers, artists, authors and publishers. He provides general business counseling as well as the preparation and negotiation of contracts and other agreements.

Mr. Melzer also counsels clients on the formation, acquisition and sale of business entities. He has a significant intellectual property practice and is attorney of record for more than 450 trademark matters before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His experience in this area includes licensing, trademark prosecution, and copyright procurement.
