Steven G. Mlenak, a member of the firm’s Real Estate and Redevelopment & Land Use Departments, will be on the faculty for the workshop “Tax Abatements – Friend or Foe?” which will be presented on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 8:30am – 12:00pm at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown. The program is being co-sponsored by the New Jersey Builders Association and the American Planning Association New Jersey Chapter.
As New Jersey’s economy grows, more and more municipalities are embracing smart growth principles through redevelopment studies and plans in addition to leveraging PILOTs (Payments In Lieu of Taxes) to ensure project viability. Unfortunately, there is a general lack of understanding amongst residents leading to community controversy. This half-day workshop, hosted by industry leaders, will empower attendees with the knowledge necessary to understand and negotiate the best deals while also debunking redevelopment myths and misconceptions.
Mr. Mlenak focuses his practice in the areas of redevelopment, land use, zoning, and real estate development. His clients include property owners and developers engaged in mixed use, residential, industrial, commercial, office, retail and affordable housing development projects. He provides guidance from the initial project concept through to construction, including land use planning and approvals, permits and variances and appearances before municipal, county and state planning and zoning boards and agencies.
